| For Randy and Stephanie Walker and the staff at Sonoran Process Equipment Company (SPEC), it has been a steady road to success since their inception in 2002. “We decided to create SPEC when Metso Minerals acquired Svedala Industries in late 2001,” said Randy in a recent interview. “That seemed like an opportune time." “When Metso was required to spin off its crushing line to Sandvik Rock Processing (now Sandvik Mining and Construction), we saw the need for a local supplier that could represent the new lineup of equipment,” he said. “We had been involved with Diversified Industrial Services of Sonora and Arizona when Svedala bought it. So when the Svedala name was turning into Sandvik, we knew that it was time to create SPEC.” Walker said that over the years, SPEC had built a successful customer base in Arizona and the southwestern US. With that in mind, they were looking to provide the continued kind of sales and service that their crushing and screening customers had come to expect. “With all of the experience that our management and sales staff possessed as a team under our previous organization, we were confident that we could do an excellent job of representing the many companies that we serve,” said Walker. “Over the years, our staff has grown and we now have 14 employees, seven at our Home Office in Tucson and seven at our facility in Phoenix.” “We knew that we would be a leader in sales and service of the new Sandvik line of crushing equipment,” Walker said. “Especially when we were able to offer units like the three UJ440i Tracked Mobile Crusher that Jack Dekker at J&D Excavators, purchased from us over the past few years.” (Consumers know the UJ440i as the former Jawmaster JM1208 jaw crusher.) Walker recalled that when J&D Excavators was looking to expand into the mobile crushing market, their first instinct was to look at the Sandvik line of crushers for their next purchase. They had enjoyed years of satisfied service using their fleet of Sandvik drilling equipment that they acquired through Lindco Equipment and Supply, Inc. “The Dekkers had come to rely upon Sandvik equipment because of its rugged engineering, and its tonnage capabilities for production,” said Walker.

“Jack wanted to see firsthand, how the new equipment operated,” Walker said. “That’s when we flew him and some key staff members to the manufacturing plant in Sweden. There he was able to see the new UJ440i being manufactured. He was able to visit several quarries in Sweden where that unit was in operation. It wasn’t long after that when he took delivery on the first Sandvik UJ440i sold in the US.” Walker said that it is customer service like this that has made SPEC what it is today. “People like Mike Miller and Steve Buckner at our Phoenix branch, give customers like the Dekkers the assurance that they are looking for when it comes to buying equipment. It is because of people like Mike and Steve that we were recognized as Entrepreneur Magazine’s 123rd ranked company in their “HOT 500” Fastest Growing Companies in the US. Sonoran Process Equipment Company specializes in Crushing, Screening, Pumps, and Wear Protection products. In addition to the Sandvik equipment line of products, they are the distributor for Ludowici Vibrating Equipment, Greystone Wash Plant Equipment, and Georgia Iron Works Slurry pumps. “These are all market-leading manufacturers,” said Walker. “SPEC offers wear protection and aftermarket products from more than a dozen other companies too,” he added. “They include Irathane, Valley Rubber, Excel, TEGA, Tema, ITT Procast, Ultrapoly, and Superior Conveyor.” “When one of our customers needs a part, they know where to turn,” said Walker. “We stock more than 1,000 parts at our two locations. We have everything from crusher parts to pump parts, screen panels and wash plant parts. We can have most of them in our customer’s hands within hours.” Adding that SPEC also offers rental equipment for customers who need crushing and screening equipment on a temporary basis, Walker said that they offer units like the Sandvik H4800 and H6800 cone crushing plants, and the Jawmaster 32 X 48 portable Jaw crushing plant. “We also rent screen plants like the Sandvik FreeFlow Stationary Screen Plant or the Ludowici 7 X 20 Triple Deck Portable Screen Plant,” he said.
