NRMCA Green-Star Program Continues Strong Growth

Concrete Producers Across U.S. Certify Their Plants

Silver Spring, MD - The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association's
Mixed Concrete Association's Green-Star Program continues its strong
growth across the United States as more and more concrete producers
realize the benefits of striving toward environmental excellence
throughout their batch plant operations.

In the past few weeks, a long list of NRMCA members
representing ready mix plants from around the nation has earned the
Green-Star label. Many of these newly certified plants are the first
ones in their states to be so designated.

Senior executives of these companies were pleased with earning the NRMCA
Green-Star designation.

"This achievement and recognition represents the culmination of efforts
beginning 10 years ago for our company, said Concrete Supply Company
President Ray Ledford. "We adopted six corporate values, of which two
are directly applicable to this achievement. The very first value we
adhere to is 'Integrity' and one of the other six is 'Community and
Industry'."

"We are extremely proud and honored to be the first ready mixed concrete
facility in Southern California to receive Green-Star Certification by
NRMCA and only the second Green-Star certified facility in California,"
said Brian Anderson, director of environmental and regulatory affairs
for Vulcan Materials Company.

Gabriel Ballestas, president of Ready Mixed Concrete Company, said,
"Argos, our parent company, is committed to being a sustainable producer
of cement and concrete in all of its markets. As part of our commitment
to protecting the environment, Ready Mixed Concrete Company is working
toward establishing green production facilities and producing green
products throughout our market areas."

"Each of these companies has set a series of comprehensive
environmental goals and uses forward thinking metrics to monitor and
measure goal progress," said Denise Corrales, chairperson of the NRMCA
Environmental Task Group from member company CEMEX.

"This program is a great example of the ready mixed concrete industry's
commitment to environmental stewardship," added NRMCA President Robert
Garbini. "The companies praised here and many more like them join an
impressive list of committed ready mix operators. I'm confident that as
more of our members realize the benefits of the Green-Star Program, its
popularity will only increase."

The Green-Star program is a plant-specific certification that utilizes
an Environmental Management System (EMS) based on a model of continual
improvement. Potential Green-Star benefits include:

*  Favored Status - Customers favor doing business with
organizations that are known to be protective of the environment.

*  Increased Revenues - Organizations will attain
savings through efforts in pollution prevention and waste reduction.

*  Improved Efficiency - Sound, consistent
environmental management methods will improve profits.

*  Community Goodwill - An organization's stance on
environmental policy and action may be the most important factor in
achieving and maintaining a community's goodwill.

*   Reduction of Liability and Risk - An organization is
less apt to have environmental problems by using a pro-active EMS that
documents results and is committed to continual improvement.
