Breaking all safety records, Holcim Midlothian a clear winner
TEXAS — The Holcim (U.S.) Inc. cement plant located in Midlothian, Texas has achieved an enviable status as a firm that has achieved numerous safety milestones.
Among the felicitations that it has received for maintaining an immaculate safety record is the recent nomination for the prestigious “Sentinels of Safety” award by the MSHA, the federal branch of the US Department of Labor with jurisdiction over the cement manufacturing industry.
“The safety of our employees is our most important core value,” commented Michel Moser, Midlothian plant manager. “We’re certainly proud of these awards, but more importantly, our employees can come to work each day knowing that they can do their jobs in a safe environment and go home injury free.
Earlier this year, the Portland Cement Association (PCA) awarded the plant with the “2009 Safety Innovation Award” for the invention of an inflatable safety device known as the ‘Duct Plug,’ which offers protection to the workers from falling objects and debris while working in vertical or near vertical ducts.
The plant was also awarded the PCA’s “Chairman’s Safety Award,” the highest safety honor awarded by the Association for two consecutive years. The Midlothian plant is the only U.S. cement manufacturing plant to receive this award for two consecutive years.
