Superior’s Chevron® Wing Pulley Deflects Material, Extends Pulley Life and Minimizes Downtime Even with the heaviest-duty traditional wing pulleys he could find, Tony Traveller says he continued to have problems. “On standard wing pulleys, rocks would lodge, and then the wing would bend and fold over. Often the wings’ edges would become so sharp, they would catch a belt splice and contribute to faster wear.” With a v-shape design, Superior's Chevron wing pulley deflects material and prevents it from lodging between pulley wings |

Traveller is the plant supervisor at Gordon Paving/Northwest Sand & Gravel in Twin Falls, Idaho. Looking to cut the downtime associated with problem pulleys, he installed his first Superior Chevron wing pulley on a 150-foot radial stacker, followed by two more on belts running from a primary impactor, and another two on discharge belts from his screening circuit. “With our Chevron wing pulleys, we have had none of those issues. There is nothing to compare with their heavy-duty design, and we can run them 24 hours a day for five or six days a week with absolutely no problems. They are withstanding the test of time,” he says.
BENEFITS OF CHEVRON WING PULLEY Deflects Material, Reduces Wing Bending Unlike standard wing pulleys, the innovative v-shape design of a Chevron wing pulley literally deflects material from entrapping between the wings or fins. Extends Conveyor Belt Life First, less material entrapment means fewer opportunities for fugitive material to puncture expensive belting. Secondly, due to its constant contact with the belt, the Chevron wing pulley significantly reduces a beating action commonly created by standard wings. PRODUCER PERSPECTIVE “Previously we always ran standard pulleys with straight fins (wings) and we kept getting rocks lodged between the wings. That meant having to shut down and knock the material out before it damaged the belt. The new Chevron wing pulleys are working well. The tapered, v-shaped design really shuts out the rock.” Daryl Schmidt, Wissota Sand and Gravel Milwaukee, Wisconsin “There were many times when we had to shut down the whole operation during the middle of the day just to replace a darn pulley. The Chevron wing pulley hasn’t caused me one ounce of trouble and it’s definitely one more worry off my mind during the day.” Bob Hoelscher, Capital Quarries Jefferson City, Missouri To learn more about bent pulley wings go to the REQUEST MORE INFO button above or click on the DIRECT CONTACT button to reach Superior directly.
