2010 AGG1 Aggregates Forum & Expo and World of Asphalt Show & Conference appeals to producers

With more than 87,000 square feet of exhibit space showcasing 340 exhibitors, there’s more than one person can see in a day.

For the more than 6500 attendees registered for this year’s AGG1 and World of Asphalt Show and Conference, the record-setting snowfall did not deter them from enjoying the show. With more than 87,000 square feet of asphalt, aggregate, and road machinery exhibits on display, visitors had many opportunities to see the latest in aggregate and asphalt paving equipment during the 4-day event held February 15-18 at the Duke Energy Convention Center in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.

For many of the more than 340 exhibitors, the record attendance was a welcome sight following more than a year of weak economic conditions throughout the asphalt paving and concrete industries. "There was a lot of positive energy on the show floor and in the education sessions, despite a still-fragile economy," noted Show Director Melissa Magestro. There were many favorable comments about the quality of the shows to facilitate networking and connecting potential buyers and sellers.”

There’s nothing like a Powerscreen portable crusher to draw people to an exhibit.

"Attendees really value the opportunity for face-to-face dialog with colleagues from across North America and even internationally, and to examine the latest technologies in one place," Magestro said. "Even with the snowy conditions we've had here, industry professionals knew this was the place they needed to be to plan for the future - the equipment and products they'll need and the education to maximize their productivity," she added.


We caught John O’Neill of McCloskey International by surprise while he was reading the current edition of North American Quarry News.

Sandvik’s customer support people worked with customers at both ends of the exhibit.

John Irvine of Roadtec Inc. agreed, saying that he was encouraged by the upbeat attitudes of the attendees. “We have seen a lot of renewed interest at the show this year. Attendance during the first day was very good.”

McLanahan’s exhibit reminded visitors that this year, they are celebrating 175 years of manufacturing excellence.

Blaine Pressley, Product Specialist for Volvo Construction Equipment NA, said that he was pleased with the responses that he had seen as prospective customers inquired about Volvo’s new OptiShift technology for large wheel loaders. Pressley said that producers really liked the idea of being able to save fuel and wear and tear on their equipment, and that it was nice to see people in the industry with a brighter outlook on future business than what he has experienced in recent months. He said that while this technology is new, it is scheduled for introduction in the US in late March or early April, and that shoppers seemed excited about how it will perform under local conditions.

The KPI-JCI/ASTEC exhibit was a busy place.

Sometimes, it’s hard to find a private place to talk business. This looked like a good place to these two men.
